A Meta-analysis of the Effect of Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors on Pain in Fibromyalgia

Background: Fibromyalgia is a clinical condition that causes wide spread severe pain, sleep problems, fatigue, and often emotional mental distress. Patients with fibromyalgia may be more sensitive to pain than others.
 Aim: This study aims screen evaluate the efficacy safety of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) in management patients fibromyalgia.
 Methods: systematic review meta-analysis gathered all studies related treatment fibromyalgia, using databases PubMed, Cochrane Library, Google Scholar. All articles visual analog scale (VAS) were included review. duplicates non-eligible or unavailable full-text excluded. The primary outcome was defined as reduction by VAS score. Secondary outcomes assessment occurrence adverse effects at any time premature withdrawal.
 Results: five for have moderate heterogeneity. shown test heterogeneity p-value greater 0.05 I2 value less 50%. If 50% significant, this results differing results. result shows SSRI group had statistically significant (Z = 2.37, p 0.02).
 Conclusion: Based on meta-analysis, SSRIs considered short-term duration, preferably female aged over 45 years old, absence other health problems except fibromyalgia. However, close monitoring potential withdrawal necessary.
